Captain Mark Maloney’s love for fishing started early—at just eight years old, he launched his first charter with a small Jon boat, a wagon for transport, a Zebco 202, and a can full of worms. That childhood curiosity turned into hands-on experience as he explored creeks near his home, learning the water’s rhythm with every cast. These early trips set the foundation for a lifelong connection to fishing and the outdoors.
Mark’s maritime roots run deep. He had the unique chance to assist his grandfather on the tugboat Atlantic 5, helping steer large tankers into port. Later, he fished alongside his father aboard the Lucky Strike II out of Cape May, New Jersey. These experiences helped shape him into the third-generation captain he is today, blending family tradition with practical skills developed over years on the water.
After a career in minor league baseball that took him across the southeastern U.S., Captain Mark found a new home in St. Petersburg, Florida. The area’s favorable weather and year-round fishing opportunities made it the perfect place to settle. With over 15 years of experience fishing the Gulf of Mexico and its surrounding bays, Mark has guided countless guests to species like amberjack, barracuda, tarpon, and yellowtail snapper. His background as a marine science teacher also adds an educational layer to every trip, making each outing both informative and engaging.
Captain Mark runs trips aboard a 30-foot center console built by Dorado, fully restored in 2018. The boat accommodates up to six guests comfortably and is powered by a 2021 Suzuki 300HP 4-stroke engine, cruising at up to 33 knots. It's fully equipped for both inshore and offshore fishing, with quality gear and navigation systems to ensure a productive and safe day on the water.
